1: According to "Nacho Libre" "nitty gritty" means to get down to the facts of life and really find out what your woman wants.

1: “Nitty-Gritty” originated in midst of the 18th century slave trade. Ships often carried slaves in the cargo holds below deck and nitty-gritty now means getting to the bottom of it. This is a derogatory reference to the slaves which were held at the bottom of the vessel.
